Black History

Black History is a crucial part of our school curriculum. As well as noting Black History Month, which is also marked in the media, figures of black history are embedded within the wider school curriculum, including music, history, geography and science. Although the project began before lockdown, some of this page was created by the excellent home learning projects conducted between children who were able to go to school and those who had to learn remotely during the affected year.

Children in Year 4 were proud to share some of their Learning Log homework to cover some key figures from Black History.

Big Talk: October 2020 - using Mr Hall's video on Harriet Tubman

Hall based display in November 2020, following project work in Ks1 to study Black History.

Adam in Year 2 followed up work he had done in school and talked about Martin Luther King's "I had a dream" speech.

Year 3 looked at Chico Mendes from Brazil, as their Black History figure - thinking about his contribution to the working population and environment of Brazil.

Year 6 look at the life of Black History figure Walter Tull, as part of their World Wars project in Autumn term.
