Our ethos:
At Southroyd, we value reading as a key life skill and are dedicated to enabling our pupils to become lifelong readers. We are passionate about giving every child the skills needed to decode and comprehend texts in order to read fluently and with enjoyment.
For children to be able to achieve these intentions, we provide them with a consistent and engaging fluency first approach of phonic teaching, following Essential Letters and Sounds.
We believe every child should leave Southroyd Primary with the skills of an outstanding reader and writer.
Our intent:

to use Essential Letters and Sounds to support children to read fluently, fast!

We aim for all children to be reading fluently by the time they leave Key Stage One.
