Visual Calculation Policy

Southroyd has developed a visual calculation policy in line with the maths calculation policy document which enables children and parents to visualise the progression of written calculation strategies through school.

School Calculation Policy

In the Autumn term, all parents will be invited into school to share in the class strategies and find out how to best support their child.

The elements of the calculation policy apply to written strategies in children's mathematical development.

For each of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) school has followed guidance to develop an effective calculation strategy.

The attached files chart the expectations by year group by which children should become confident in an element of the calculation policy. Teachers adhere to this plan consistently to ensure that all children receive a simple but effective diet in calculation methods.

The Visible Calculation Policy (VCP) is displayed around school and shared with parents at our Parent Maths Evenings (e.g October 8th 2014)
